Branch 50 of the Royal Canadian Legion in CBS is again this year offering a bursary program for Level III students in the CBS area. Bursaries are awarded to students who are children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren of Canadian ex-service persons (war veterans or post-war service). The application form should be returned to Branch 50 for selection by August 31, 2013. Click here to download more information and the application form.

Queen Elizabeth will be holding its annual co-curricular awards banquet on Wednesday, June 19 starting at 7 pm.
Awards in sports, music ,drama and other co-curricular areas will be presented. Members of any co-curricular activity should contact their coach or teacher if they wish to attend the event.
The cost is $5.

First Aid Certificates

Students who completed the St. John Ambulance First Aid Course on Tuesday, May 28 or on Thursday, May 30 can see Mr. Blundon to get their certificates. Certificates for students who did the course on Wednesday, May 29 have not yet arrived. A small number of certificates have spelling mistakes in the names and will be replaced.

MUN Debate Society Summer Camp

MUN Debate Society is a student group based on Memorial University’s St. John’s campus. We have a stated mandate of promoting speech and debate, especially within the school system of Newfoundland and Labrador. We are an organization, which runs debate tournaments and seminars high school students, in addition to running a debate society for university students.
At the end of August 2013, we plan to bring together students from across the province in order to teach them to enjoy debate as much as we do. The “camp” assumes zero previous knowledge of debate, and will include a large number of critiqued debates, seminars on every aspect of debating, as well as workshops on creating and maintaining a debate club in the student’s school. Our aim is to create many “seeds” of debate clubs, who can bring debate to every corner of Newfoundland.
With this in mind, then, we are looking for students who would benefit from such a camp. Students who are already comfortable speaking in front of their peers, students who display above-average command of language (in written or spoken form), and most of all, students who are motivated and hardworking, are all ideal for our debate camp. Please be aware that there are NO fees associated with this camp. Moreover, thanks to a generous grant from Killam/Fulbright Canada, we are offering accommodations and travel financing for any student who might need it. More information can be found on our website.
